International Transgender Day of Visibility

​Today is International Transgender Day of Visibility, and we're sending love to all the trans and non-binary folks in our community. Your presence, power, and artistry have helped shape the story of burlesque - especially here in Nova Scotia.
We’re also shining a light on the incredible Marinka, a Cuban-born American trans woman who performed at the Fabulous Lobster Trap Cabaret during a time when being out wasn’t safe. Her story is bold, beautiful, and vital.

LAND AHOY! 6,500 sailors roll into happy Halifax by Chris Dennett Star staff writer
Halifax - Everybody loves a sailor, but this Maritime port was bracing last night for an onslaught by 6,500 seamen as a fleet of 28 warships tied up for a three-week stay. 
Halifax, which hasn't seen so many navy ships and seamen around since World War II, is rolling out the red carpet for the visitors. 

WEEKEND BONANZA 
Bars and cocktail lounges were laying on extra shows and hoping for a weekend bonanza as the British, Dutch, West German, and American sailors began hitting town to sample it's delights. 
"We are going all-out to make everyone feel at home," said Bill Bellefontaine, owner of the Lobster Trap cabaret. "We are not expecting any trouble. Sailors always enjoy themselves but cause little trouble."

Marinka, the Lobster Traps 6-foot 3-inch dancer, began pumping out two extra shows last night to stay abreast of demand. 
City police reported no special plans to cope with the sailors, man of whom have spent more than a month at sea
