In the late 1970s, audiences at Halifax’s Fabulous Lobster Trap Cabaret were treated to a powerhouse performance by none other than Lotsa Poppa.

Billed as “400lbs of Soul,” Lotsa Poppa brought high-energy rhythm and blues to Nova Scotia’s nightlife scene, captivating audiences with his commanding voice and magnetic stage presence.

Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, he began his music career under the name Little Julius before rebranding to Lotsa Poppa in the mid-1960s. His unforgettable style and sound earned him spots opening for legends like James Brown, The Ink Spots, and Jimmy Reed.

With a voice as bold as his name, Lotsa Poppa made his mark on Halifax’s night life scene.
